Magician John Sullivan got a late start to the magic business when he first performed publicly at Tom Foolery's Eatery in Westborough, Massachusetts at the age age of 24. Although a magic hobbyist from a young age, in 1983 Sullivan was a seasoned food service professional, having worked his way up the restaurant hierarchy from dishwasher and busboy in high school through waiter, line cook, chef, and finally hotel kitchen manager.
With his hotel closing for renovations that summer, Sullivan's initial intention was to do something fun yet challenging with the free time, then return to his position when renovations were complete in the fall. He decided to share his love of close-up magic by performing in restaurants where he could work his hocus-pocus at tableside, behind the bar and while mingling with the patrons. Immediately well received, John could soon be found performing his sleight-of-hand magic three hours a night, five nights a week at restaurants across Massachusetts. In addition to Fri. and Sat. nights at Tom Foolery's in Westborough, Sullivan appeared regularly at Legal Seafood - Copley in Boston, Souvenir's in Marlborough, Edible Rex in Billerica, The Lodge at Mt. Wachusett, Reflections in Hudson, and Yesterdays in Sturbridge. Immersed in magic during this time, Sullivan was also employed as salesman & demonstrator at Hank Lee's Magic Factory in Boston, one of the top magic shops in the country.
Although strictly focused on close-up magic when John began performing, he quickly expanded from restaurants & cocktail party gigs into stand-up comedy magic, stage illusions, and kid’s shows, becoming a full-time pro in 1986.
For the next 11 years Sullivan filled his calendar with a mind-boggling array of gigs. From preschools to nightclubs and corporate functions to birthday parties, John brought his brand of magic & fun to thousands of audiences at elementary schools, colleges, cub scout events, trade shows, libraries, malls, and private events.
In 1997 John decided to dedicate 100% of his time and effort on family and children's entertainment, a decision which allowed him to develop The Mr. Magichead Show into one of the most surprising, original, and high-energy kid's acts in the biz.
With over 35 years in the magic business and showing no signs of slowing down, Sullivan opened School of Magic in 2018. In addition to offering birthday parties and magic lessons in his former Worcester, MA studio/warehouse, John continues to perform at hundreds of kid's and family events annually.
